Can it be possible? A “last” word? From Ward? How unlikely is that? For seven years (almost), I’ve been writing A Word from Ward blogs as part of the CASA50+ Network. Speaking up for adults 50+ along with the pastors and others who work with them has been my “second half calling.”
However, as this New Year unfolds, my role with CASA50+ Network is changing. I am stepping away from the responsibilities of president/executive director to be active and involved in ways more befitting this season of my own further life journey. I will continue to write and, when invited, stir the “glowing embers” among Christ followers in life’s second half, pastors and others who lead them on their journey with Jesus.
This year, Dixie and I celebrate our 59th anniversary. Last year, she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. Since then Dixie has undergone major surgery as well as radiation and chemotherapy treatments. Thank you for your prayers! It is my honor to give her love and attention in this amazing time in our lives. We are learning and loving much together each day.
Now please join me in welcoming Cheryl Gardner as the new CASA50+ Network president. Cheryl is an outstanding Christian leader. She and her husband, Randy, live in Southern California, where he serves as pastor to adults 50+ and care ministry at Purpose Church in Pomona. Cheryl brings significant leadership and experience in working with non-profits to CASA50+ Network. I am delighted to work with her through this transition and on into the future. You will be hearing from her soon.
We covet God’s favor and blessing. This we all must have. Let us seek fresh “second-half callings and blessings,” honoring God and making a kingdom difference as you and we serve together in 50+ and intergenerational ministry.
I want to join the board of directors in thanking you for your support of CASA50+ Network. You really do make a difference in reaching pastors, church leaders and others who serve men and women age 50+. And CASA pays it forward to others, multiplying ministry in and through adults in life’s second half. Take the opportunity right now to show your support by making an online contribution.
Blessings. Happy New Year to you and those you love and serve. By Ward Tanneberg.
Dear Ward:
Thanks for your leadership with CASA and the stirring of the embers. You have done well. Enjoy your new calling to serve Dixiie. You will do it well.
Ward,
Thank you so much for your years of service to CASA. Thank you so much for your ‘words’ of encouragement to us and myself directly. I am so excited to learn that Cheryl Gardner is coming on board and that she is close to my home church! May God bless Cheryl has she steps into this position with CASA. May God continue to bless your and your lovely wife, Dixie. (I will be in the Seattle area with the Young at Heart crew this summer, maybe we can get together!)
Ward. You have been an excellent representative for CASA. I appreciate your hard work in developing excellent conferences along with many other helps. You helped me to launch an “master adult” ministry that is still growing and innovating. I look forward to your successor building on your work. I wish you and Dixie God’s very best as you turn this page in your lives and careers together.
Thanks, Chuck. It has been my pleasure!
