PERSPECTIVE is understanding the relative importance of things seen from a certain viewpoint. This is true for the architect or the theologian, the parent or the child. One thing is certain. For every person it is important to have a true perspective on living, learning and leading in life’s first half. And even more so in the second.
I’m now in life’s final third. So when does true perspective cease being important? The answer is, it doesn’t. It is key to any successful outcome. So the opportunity to share perspective from what could legitimately be life’s best vantage point is too good to pass up.
Much has been said in recent years about moving from success to significance. We all hope to finish well. I know I do. I am 79 this year. That makes me ‘shelf material’ in today’s youth driven society. Do I need to point out that some things of great value are placed on shelves? Not that there’s anything wrong with that. At least for lifeless objects. It’s just that I, like many others, remain a life message and feel a personal sense of responsibility to “listen well, write creatively, speak to influence, stir the glowing embers of my peers, and turn the Light on for the next generations.”
One of my favorite ‘shelf material’ guys is the Apostle John. His brother was the first apostle to be martyred. However, John outlived his brother and all the other apostles, eventually passing away at around 100 years of age. What I like best about John is he did his most transformational work in his final years. Instead of succumbing to weariness he surrendered to worthiness. Nearing the end of a full and meaningful life, with pen and ink he placed the unique perspective of all his years on parchment in what we know today as the Letters and the Gospel and the Revelation of John. He “listened well, wrote creatively, spoke to influence, stirred the glowing embers of his peers, and turned the Light on for his and every generation from then until now.”
I cannot promise another ‘epistle’ or ‘gospel’ or ‘revelation’ like John. Not all the right answers. Just one man’s perspective on living, learning and leading in life’s second half, coming from the years I’ve spent on the journey in home and church and the world as I have known it. In this blog I’ll share something twice monthly from a worldview that is Christocentric, practical, spiritual, motivational. I’ll write whatever I think might be of interest or have some value for you.
I invite you to subscribe below. It’s free. You can unsubscribe at any time. That’s free, too. So you’re in control. Many of you know me through years of ministry with CASA 50+ Network which closed in 2015. You can find out more at www.wardtanneberg.com. You may not always agree with me, but it’s okay. The point here is perspective.
Blessings.
