Several of you have shared with me your “Life Creed,” in response to my Perspective blog, “What is Your Life Creed?” (https://wardtanneberg.com/2019/02/12/what-is-your-life-creed/). Congratulations for taking a brave and important step! Others have asked, how do I begin? An honest question, so let me show you.

MEET MY FRIEND SALLY A number of years ago,
I became Sally’s pastor. She initially made our acquaintance from somewhat of a
skeptic‘s perspective, if memory serves me well, and having long since become a
solid and faithful follower of Jesus. On her faith journey, Sally is known as
one who unpacks her uniqueness by allowing the Holy Spirit to make everyday in
her life a holy adventure! I was included among
those to whom Sally sent her December 2018, “Friends and Relatives” letter. It
so impressed me that I held onto it. Now I see why. Recently, Sally also
forwarded to me her personal “creedal statement.” The two documents, when
placed side by side, reflect a true “Life Creed,” expressed in words and
lived out in actions. An excellent example for you in writing your own “Life
Creed.” ~
Sally’s Creed
~ Take care of the earth
and enjoy its beauty; help those less fortunate both financially and
physically. Cherish my friendships
and family and spend much time with them; Live life to its fullest. Have fun! Learn about other
cultures so I can understand our similarities and differences. Be tolerant! Live my life in a
Christ-like way. Stay in physical shape
so I can enjoy a short or long hike, a valley saunter or a mountain climb; Read
all kinds of literature and have someone with whom to discuss it. Grow my own vegetables
and fruit so I know what it should taste like and of course to keep healthy; Be
frugal, spend wisely and enjoy being altruistic. Lifelong learning will
keep my mind alert; equal rights and education for all! Stay abreast to what is
happening in the world, not just in the United States; Inclusion makes America
great! ~
Sally’s December 2018 Letter ~ Dear Friends and
Relatives Another year, another
milestone! Yes, I hit the 80th year in February and celebrated in Cambodia with
Lifewater staff and field trainers. I continue with Lifewater training trips
and lots of fundraising. My family is doing well
(there follows names of children grandchildren, locations, activities.) Rain has finally
arrived in California and brought relief from all the smoke from the huge Butte
fire north of us. Now the hills will begin to turn green! I continue to walk 5
miles or hike in the hills five days a week. Looking at a possible long walk
next year. We shall see how the body holds up! Gardening and pruning
at home take up much of my time, but I love it and it is so therapeutic! Two
book groups keep me reading. One of our groups spent four days at Pajaro Dunes,
just mostly hanging out and walking on the beach. These friends are so
important to me and each other. Fundraising for
scholarships for girls through AAUW and also for “She is Safe“ are two of my
other passions. I did get to Olmsted
Camp, our family farm in Western New York State for two weeks. I love that
place! My card is a photo of my attempt to watercolor/ink the farmhouse in
winter. It looks a little like Grandma Moses style! Our 6 AM Bible study
group still continues and I look forward to church every Sunday at Valley
Christian Center. “Inclusion makes
America great!” is written on the button I wear as I write this letter. It sums
up where I stand! Love, Sally A Life Creed is not what you hope others
believe you are— it is what you already are and believe. “What we do flows from who we are.” – Paul Vitale “For
by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more
highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in
accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.” —
Romans 12:3 (NIV) Love to you
all, [1]
