“Liberty cannot be established without morality, nor morality without faith.”

Alexis de Tocqueville (1805-1859) a French aristocrat, diplomat, political scientist and historian, wrote these words about liberty 200 years ago, concerning the tyranny of the state and evil from within, words still relevant in today’s society.

“It would degrade men without tormenting them … It is absolute, detailed, regular, far-seeing, and mild. It would resemble paternal power if, like that, it had for its object to prepare men for manhood; but on the contrary, it seeks only to keep them fixed irrevocably in childhood … It willingly works for their happiness; but it wants to be the unique agent and sole arbiter of that; it provides for their security, foresees and secures their needs, facilitates their pleasures, conducts their principal affairs, directs their industry, regulates their estates, divides their inheritances; can it not take away from them entirely the trouble of thinking and the pain of living? So it is that every day it renders the employment of free will less useful and more rare; it confines the action of the will in a smaller space and little by little steals the very use of free will from each citizen … It reduces each nation to being nothing more than a herd of timid and industrious animals of which the government is the shepherd.”

THE ‘PERFECT STORM’

example of what Tocqueville is describing is the Comprehensive Sexuality Education mandate recently signed into law by Washington state Governor Inslee (CSE is also being promoted in states all across America).

AS A PARENT OR GRANDPARENT

I recommend you visit the following blog (see the link below) and view the attachments (11 minutes) to be informed with regard to the COMPREHENSIVE SEXUALITY EDUCATION mandate in public schools for students in kindergarten through 12th grade that Governor Inslee recently signed into law in Washington state. See what and how your children/grandchildren will be taught with regard to sexual values. Then ask yourself, “do I want the government to be my shepherd?”

IF I HAD SCHOOL AGE CHILDREN

I would be very concerned. I don’t. But I do have school age great-grandchildren and I remain just as concerned for them. There still is an opportunity for your voice and the voices of thousands like you to be heard. We can be “more than a herd of timid and industrious animals of which the government is the shepherd.”

TOCQUEVILLE ALSO SAID

“The greatness of America lies not in being more enlightened than any other nation, but rather in her ability to repair her faults.”

“The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public’s money.”

WAS TOCQUEVILLE RIGHT?

I believe so. The government is not my shepherd.

“Liberty cannot be established without morality, nor morality without faith.”

CENTURIES BEFORE TOCQUEVILLE

a boy who became a great king wrote these enduring words,

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” ~Psalm 23:1

I believe this, too.
