IN GEORGE ORWELL’S

dystopian and cautionary novel, 1984, is this telling comment in chapter 2: “Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past.” My belief is Biblical, world, and early American history serves as an important and much neglected paradigm, from which to understand and lead our present and future generations of families, churches, and communities.

Reflecting on the historical and modern day diversity of cultures, ideas, and faith traditions not our own, broadens and deepens one’s ability to respectfully lead as followers of Jesus among increasingly diverse families, neighborhoods, businesses and communities. Educational travel is a great way to “control the past” so we may better “control the future.”

AS A FOLLOWER OF JESUS

one of life’s great experiences has been to “walk where Jesus walked” as part of a carefully planned journey, helping me “control the past,” while making the Holy Scriptures come alive for a lifetime. A pilgrimage into the ancient past, provides a greater understanding of present times. I have personally led such pilgrimages several times over the past 40 years with scores of wonderful people to journey with me.

My ministry colleague once again is Dr. Gary Gulbranson, Sr. Pastor of Friendship Church, Palm Desert, CA, who joins me in adding additional biblical and spiritual insights. Moshe Hesed, our Israeli guide, has a superb knowledge of this magical land. Together we are planning a custom itinerary for those who wish to come along.

WE HAVE INCORPORATED

numerous exciting ancient-modern Biblical sites, such as the port city of Jaffe, the old city of Jerusalem, the Masada fortress and the Golan Heights, just to name a few. We will dig in an Israeli archeological site, ride a camel into the desert, float on the Dead Sea, walk through Hezekiah’s tunnel, enjoy boating on the Sea of Galilee, and much more.

THERE IS ALSO OPPORTUNITY TO EXTEND

3 additional days in Jordan, during which we will visit Mount Nebo, experience PETRA, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, stay on the Dead Sea and visit the capital city of Amman, a bustling ancient-modern city.

After each amazing day in Israel and Jordan, we will “come home” to excellent meals and accommodations in deluxe hotels.

FOR ITINERARY DETAILS AND REGISTRATION INFORMATION, request them from my daughter, Michele Peterson, who travels with us, assists with arrangements and is at mp2athome@me.com. Spaces are limited and filling quickly. We will continue to accept registrations as long as space is Çavailable, so register soon!

I look forward to having you join us.

Next year in Jerusalem!
