Nearly two years ago, I sent an email invitation to people in the retirement community in which I live, and with whom I had developed a passing acquaintance through the use of Zoom during the pandemic lockdown.
I wasn’t sure anyone would come. But when I opened the door, there were 11 people standing there with their drinking cups in hand. We enjoyed each other, and I asked if they’d like me to tell them a story. They said yes, and I did. They asked if we could do it again, and I said yes.
Since that time, every Sunday, we gather together, now in a larger meeting area where an ever growing number come together to sing, pray, and hear the Greatest Story ever told. We even gather on “Tuesdays at Two,” where we’ve currently been following the film series, “The Chosen.”
So, last Sunday, we gathered around our community pool, singing songs of joy and praise to the One True God as 10 persons, in their 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s identified with Jesus Christ as Lord in water baptism. Who could have imagined? Well, two years ago it seems God did. And those of us at the pool last Sunday were a part of something wonderful.
May Jesus keep us close.
