Yes, for those who don’t already know, that’s me. Today, I am a writer. A few years ago (okay, decades, really), I began my public ministry as a young evangelist, then a denominational youth director, a college public relations director, a guest lecturer, an adjunct professor, and a pastor in three churches. And now I write.

Words for me are like seeds in a farmer’s hand, like paints on an artist’s palette—waiting to be something more. I’ve been entrusted with a handful of seeds to sow wisely and colors to spread across the canvas of our days. To be creative. To tell the story of Jesus through the power of story. To lead his people home. It’s what I was called to do. This is why I write.

What do I believe?

I believe in entertaining storytelling that takes you somewhere exciting, meaningful, and inspiring. I write a newsletter, articles and other books, but I love writing suspense thrillers. A word of caution: if you think an exciting story cannot be written without four-letter words or explicit sexual scenes, you may want to take a pass on me. Maybe out of curiosity, you’ll try one of my stories and see what you think. Writing the way I do is more challenging than using Jesus as profanity. As a kid on the farm, I learned to clean up my mouth the hard way. I’ll tell you about it someday; it’s a funny story. Yes, if you weren’t sure before, now you know. I am a follower of Jesus.

I believe in the deity of Jesus, his virgin birth, his sinless life, his miracles, his death and resurrection, his ascension back to the Father, his promise to return one day, and that he’s never broken a promise. I believe all this.

I write thrillers because readers love to read them. To be entertained, learn, and identify with my characters who are on their own questioning, terrifying, out-of-control, yet still hopeful life journeys. To ask themselves, “What if this were me?” The truth? It is.

What am I working on now?

I am broadening my blog, “Perspective,” into a newsletter with the same name. It will include inspirational articles, personal anecdotes, and who knows what else. Even Gage may get a woof in now and then.

I am developing an inspiring book series called The Cain Family Thrillers that you won’t want to put down. This series will combine fresh revisions of previous stories with my latest novel. This is a major task but exciting. More to come. Let’s stay in touch.

May Jesus keep us close.
